Abstract:French
historian Fernand Braudel clarified the concept of “economic
world” in his book Mediterranean, which brought significant
impacts on the theoretical thinking of the world economy. On
the other hand, American scholar Wallerstein, in his theory,
especially stressed the close relation of capitalism with
the system of world economy. This paper argues that the
differences between the two historians are mainly reflected
in the aspects such as unity or diversity, the relationship
of market with nation states, and the connection of state
with capitalism. This paper also highlights the importance
of historical comparison to the understanding of world
history and the understanding of the role of national
economy within today’s trend of globalization.
