提 要：本文在回顾19世纪后期以降朝鲜早期民族主义史学与随后形成的殖民地史学，以及20世纪50至80年代两个朝鲜交织而又差异的民族主义历史编纂学概况基础上，通过梳理晚近时期英语学术语境中的韩朝历史编纂学研究状况，呈现韩朝历史编纂学重要观念和研究范式的推演流变。西方学术界的韩朝历史研究在50年代以后长期受现代性话语、西方中心主义、东方主义主导，80年代以后逐渐受后现代主义、后殖民主义、人类学研究方式等影响，出现历史修正思潮，与韩朝史学界自身以民族主义为中心的历史研究取向交错感染，辩难纠缠，形成非常复杂的学术状态。晚近韩国历史学家对西方的韩朝历史编纂学已经做出较有深度的评析。透过西方韩朝历史编纂学的推演历程，可以看到现实价值取向与历史客观性取向之间的复杂纠结。

Title: Nationalism, Modernity, Orientalism, and Post-colonialism: Korean Historiography in Recent Western Scholarship

Abstract: Based upon a brief review of the Korean historiography since late the 19th century, including the early nationalist historiography, colonial historiography, and the post-Korean War historiography in South and North Korea, this article introduces the general trend of Korean studies published in English focussing on the key concepts and paradigms. After the 1950s of the last century, the Western scholars of the Korean history were largely dominated by the modernation theory, Western Centralism, and Orientalism. Since 1980s, the western discourse of the Korean history has been strongly influenced by Post Modernism, Post-colonialism, and methodology of anthropolgy, which leads to a trend of historical revision. Pointing out many problems of the Korean nationalism indeed, meanwhile, this trend generally overstressed the economical and social progress of Colonial Korea and the Korean people’s acception and amalgamation to the Japanese occopation, which by and large constitutes a re-recognation of the Japanese Colonialism. Recentely, some South Korean historians have published critical reviews about the above-mentioned trend. An obvious fact is that value judgement has been playing a crucial role in Western scholarship of the Korean studies.
