“形而上者谓之道,形而下者谓之器”评析

提 要:本文首先在《系辞》文本语境中分析了“形而上者谓之道,形而下者谓之器”的词语含义;然后,梳理比对了历代学者对这句话的解释;进而,在对“形”加以定义的基础上,分析了“形”、“道”、“器”的关系,论证了三者作为中国古代基本哲学术语的总体含义。最后,本文就这一基本哲学术语所体现的中国古代哲学的思维共性与差别做出了评析。

Title: A Commentary Interpretation of Classical Chinese Doctrine “Whatever Metaphysical Means Way; Whatever Physical Means Substance”

Abstract:This article first of all analyzed the literary meaning of the doctrine “xingershang zhe weizhidao, xingerxia zhe weizhi qi (形而上者谓之道;形而下者谓之器,whatever metaphysical means way; whatever physical means substance) within the context of Xici (《系辞》). Secondly, it sorted and compared the previous explanations of this saying. Thirdly, based upon a newer definition of the term xing(形), this study discussed the connections of xing, dao(道), and qi(器) and pointed out the general implication of these connected three terms as the fundamental philosophical vocabulary in the context of ancient Chinese philosophy. Further, this article commented on the commonness and diversification of ancient Chinese philosophical thinking reflected by the said doctrine.
