Title:The Impacts of the Oriental Cultures to Modern Science
Author:Jiang Qian, Associate Research Professor, Institute of Philosophy, Hubei Social Science Academy, Wuhan, China 430077
Abstract:Modern science is not an exclusive outcome of Western civilization. Rather, it is a hybrid and co-creature of the Eastern and Western civilizations. The ancient Greek science did not directly transform into modern science, whereas the Eastern cultures brought rectification, acculturation and sublimation to the radical rationalist tendency of the Western science. Furthermore, Eastern cultures made compensation to the Western tradition for its lack of concerning humanity. Evidences of these impacts can be seen in the documents about the Eastern scientific thoughts and in the evolution process of the modern science itself. Without these impacts, modern science would have been impossible to emerge.
